Tie Remains After Recount for 4th District Town Council Candidates

A tie vote continues a deadlock for 4th District Town Council candidates even after Saturday's recount of votes.

The Democratic primary, held last Tuesday, forced a recount of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th districts, plus the Board of Education and Finance, due to several tie votes.

Jack Stacey won the primary for mayoral Democratic candidate over Gary DePalma by a vote of 969 to 839. There was no recount in that race.

According to Town Clerk Stacy Piccirillo, if following a recount there still remains a tie in number of votes for two candidates, then two scenarios could happen:
1.  one of the two candidates decides to drop out of the race, thus putting the other candidate's name on the November ballot, or
2. the town holds a run-off election for the two candidates in that district

As one can see, the recount yielded small gains or losses of one or two votes for most candidates.  The largest gain came out in the Board of Education race with two candidates, Maryann Pellegrino and Christine Sanford, gaining 101 votes each.

Here are the results of Tuesday's primary and the recount votes (in bold):
