I met Joe last summer for the first time while working on a story about his family history. If you…Read More didn't get a chance to read it, http://easthaven.patch.com/articles/italian-immigrant-family-found-a-home-on-saltonstall-place, marks the spot. Joe was a wonderful man and he came from a wonderful family. We'll all miss him.

Part of Joe's legacy is his sense of humor. I think it would very touching to his family if we can…Read More remember one interaction with Joe and share it...So here goes mine. It was the day after I ran against Mike Lawlor in 2006 and lost the election. Everyone thought I had it won. My campaign manager Benny Mazzucco told me "Kid I think you're going to win." Then the world came crashing down and I lost. As I sat in Oasis wondering what happened in comes Joe Buonome and he said "How ya doing kid?" I said Joe, I don't get it I knocked on 5,000 doors, I pounded the pavement and I had good response. Joe's reply...."You were doing just fine until you knocked on those doors!" I looked at him and he had the stupid look on his face and I just started to laugh hysterically. Joe always had a way with words to make someone feel better!

Outside of my family I don't think I'll ever meet a man of Joe's character. We were all truly…Read More blessed to have known him, have him our lives and to have him as a friend. He certainly always had a great story to tell. My personal favorite was when he arrested all of Stevens Street and when he brought them to the old police station. The desk sgt at the time "unarrested" all of them and told Joe to go find a shady tree and sit under it for the rest of the day." The best part of Joe was he could find humor in himself and not care at all. RIP...Great memories of a truly great person.
