Communication/Participation the Key to Success at East Haven High School

East Haven High School Principal discusses communication and participation at East Haven High School.

I’d like to introduce myself as the new Principal of East Haven High School.  Thus far, it has been an absolute honor to lead such great students, staff and parents/guardians.  I have spent my entire 13-year career within the East Haven Public Schools, most recently serving as the Social Studies Instructional Leader for grades 6-12.  Prior to serving in this administrative capacity, I taught in the Social Studies department and was the varsity head coach for Girls Cross Country, Girls Basketball and Girls Tennis.

One of my main objectives is to open lines of communication with students, families and the East Haven community with greater frequency and through multiple sources.  As such, all members of our school community can get up-to-date information on events, learn about new programs, and provide feedback through this blog on the East Haven Patch, my Facebook page East Haven HS Yellowjackets, my Twitter account @EHHS Principal, and through the East Haven High School’s website at www.east-haven.k12.ct.us/ehhs.  It is my belief that the key to the success of our students, and ultimately East Haven High School, is based on honest, open communication.

East Haven High School has made significant progress over the last several years to increase our academic offerings and increase our co-curricular activities.  Currently, there are 13 Advanced Placement courses, six of which are part of the University of Connecticut Early College Experience program.  In addition to these rigorous courses, we offer a number of courses in the Arts, Technology/Media, Medical Careers and Sciences, including Engineering.  We also offer several clubs/activities and athletic programs that satisfy a variety of interest levels and abilities.  Our goal is to provide students with the skills they will need to be both college and career ready.  Both our academic and co-curricular offerings provide students with opportunities and experiences, which will provide them with the essential skills and practical knowledge necessary to understand their role in an ever-changing world and to be productive citizens.

To meet our goals, it is imperative that all members of our school community be active participants and true partners with one another so that our students, and East Haven High School in general, can achieve greatness.  I encourage all students, parents/guardians and families, faculty/staff, alumni and members of the East Haven community to actively seek ways to support our school and participate during school sponsored activities, events and academic functions, not just here at East Haven High School, but across the district.

I am incredibly excited about the possibilities that the future holds for East Haven High School, our students, families, and the East Haven community.  There is no doubt in my mind that together we can make East Haven High School an institution of excellence and I look forward to beginning that journey with all of you.

I have said this before and I will say it again; Mr. DeNuzzo is the right person to lead EHHS. There is no one more prepared to lead the school. I know he will help the students of EHHS acheive.

Mr DeNuzzo, congratulations on your new appointment. We all wish you success in your new position. I note that you emphasize improving communications and the broad range of offerings available to our students. What are your plans for improving student performance in comparison to other schools? This seems to be the biggest concern of local parents.

Looks like keeping the communication lines open is working very well. Congratulations on winning the state Outstanding Documentary Short Film Award. All of your students should be very proud for this great achievement.

I'm disappointed with the new format. Doesn't seem to be very user friendly.

Gov. O'mally is ruining this State by driving more and more people into poverty, giving illegalsRead More drivers licenses, letting criminals out of jail early, pushing good companies out, and making it's citizens unsafe. Time to clean house starting locally!

WE THE PEOPLE have no say in how governments govern nor how OUR money is spent. WE supposedly electRead More people who take the trust of the people with them when elected and do the will of WE THE PEOPLE. This has never happened. Especially in state and federal office. Once in office the power they discover they now have pushes aside the will of the people. It an attitude of we have the power and you don't. Someday, but I doubt it, we can elect those who will not loose site of why they were elected.

Beth - I am sorry to hear about your disappointment and I'll try to explain a few of your points.Read More First, Patch is a community forum as well as a news source. We have been looking for sports-minded folks to blog for us and keep us informed about events such as the softball team's state playoffs. We don't have a sports editor to cover just sports for the town so we rely on folks in the community to help us all stay informed. Many Patch sites have a sports blogger who reports on sports. Anyone interested?? In regard to the accident on No. High Street, you are correct in the fact that minimal information was reported and there was a reason for that - because minimal information was released to the press. We asked, we didn't get answers. And with our new format, there are 'bugs' in the system which are being worked out, so we apologize for all of them ahead of time, especially when links don't work or when spacing is off. It's frustrating, I understand. Please continue to support the EH Patch.
