The East Haven hockey team lost in overtime to Notre Dame-West Haven in their opening round of play in the Division I State Tournament Wednesday night.

East Haven hockey lost in overtime to Notre Dame-West Haven in their opening round of play in the Division I State Tournament Wednesday night, according to a New Haven Register report.

The Easties were up by as much as three goals during the game. But the team was unfortunately unable to hold on to the lead and eventually lost by a score of 5-4.

East Haven netminder Zach Bouve was spectacular in goal, making a total of 70 saves throughout the OT thriller, the Register reports.

The East Haven hockey team finished the regular season with a 8-11-1 record to earn the No. 15 seed in the Division I State Tournament, which began this week. 

The Yellowjackets begin play in the state tournament tonight, facing a familiar opponent – Notre Dame-West Haven. During the regular season, East Haven dropped a 6-1 decision to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame, which finished with a 15-4-1 record for the No. 2 seed, hosts tonight's game at Bennett Rink in West Haven at 5 p.m.

The winner moves on to the quarterfinals to take on the winner of the Notre Dame-Fairfield (No. 10)-Simsbury (No. 7) matchup on March 9.
