St. Vincent’s Girls Softball One Win Away From Championship

The team plays in the big game today.

St.Vincent girls softball defeated Holy Trinity 9-2 in the semi-finals of the Greater New Haven Parochial Athletic League’s playoffs, to earn a spot in the championship game.

A victory this afternoon, June 3, at the Sportsplex in North Branford will give the Eagles their first softball championship since the 1990s.

St. Vincent struck fast and early in the semis and put up three runs in the first with hits from Jordan Parlato, Angela Ranciato’s RBI triple and Laura Anderson’s single driving in two RBI’s. The Eagles kept adding to the score every inning, but the decisive blow came in the fourth. With the bases loaded and the Eagles ahead 6-1, Alexis Esposito hit a bases-clearing triple to make the score 9-1.

With a solid offensive effort behind her, seventh grader Kaityln Mingione cruised to her first post season victory. She pitched all six innings and struck out 12 batters.  Of Mingione’s 12 strikeouts, she caught four of them looking. Notable defensive plays were made by Kaylee Sheehan and Laura Anderson.

The Eagles play for the Championship today at 3:45 p.m. at the CT Sportsplex in North Branford.
