Girls from Melillo Middle School and East Haven Academy turned out in high numbers this week for softball tryouts at Memorial Field. Coach Kathleen Doheny estimated roughly 60 girls hit the field hoping to earn a spot on the team. The first round of cuts was made Wednesday afternoon; a second round will be made Thursday.
