History-Making Yellow Jacket Prepares for College Competition

Megan Rea, East Haven High School's first female all-state soccer player, will be playing at Stony Brook University in New York this fall.

After four years playing on the East Haven High School varsity team, Megan Rea will be taking her talents to the next level. The recent graduate signed a letter of intent to play Division 1 soccer at Sony Brook University this fall.

"Megan is a pure attacking threat that can play as a forward or as an attacking midfielder," Stony Brook head coach Sue Ryan said in a press release. "Her speed, technical ability, and goal scoring prowess will definitely unbalance opposing defenses. We look forward to seeing her immediately impacting our team."

Rea began started playing soccer at the East Haven Youth Program when she was nine years old. Since then, the forward/midfielder has racked up the accolades. The senior co-captain made history when she was the first female All State recipient, and also won the John “Whitey” Piurek Award from the Great New Haven Soccer Official’s Association for female soccer player of the year.

During her high school career, she had 30 goals and 30 assists. She also played for the Olympic development team. When she goes to school, she plans to major in psychology.

Correction: A previous story said that Rea was the first female all-state athlete at EHHS. She was actually the first female soccer player to attain that distinction.
