East Haven Wrestlers Compete in Class M Championships
Miller and Milano make quarterfinal round.
The East Haven wrestling team competed in the 2011 Class M Wrestling Championships last week held at Windham High School. The field at this year's Class M meet included 27 teams. Bacon Academy finished at top team with 229 points. Ledyard and Windham came in second and third respectively. East Haven fought hard and earned a 26th-place finish.
East Haven's Anthony Milano pinned Montville's Clay Duncan in the 130-pound division. The result was a run-in with eventual champion Miguel Calixto of Windham. Calixto made quick work of Milano in just a minute.
Tyler Miller, of East Haven, beat number 9 seed Tristen Cauley of Suffield to earn his quarterfinal berth. Again, luck would have it that the East Haven team would have to go through another #1 seed to advance. This time it was Bacon Academy's Devin Covone. Covone pinned Miller in 1:47 to advance to the semifinals. Covone would go one to win the championship.
