East Haven Girls Lose In State Softball Semis

The team was defeated 7-0 Wednesday by powerhouse Granby to end a strong season.

A strong season came to an end Wednesday when the East Haven High School Softball team lost to Granby, 7-0, in the semifinals of the Class M state championship.

East Haven, which is known for having a strong offense, managed just two hits against Granby pitcher Courtney Aherns, according to the New Haven Register. Meanwhile, the team gave up 14 hits and seven runs as Granby moved on and will square off against Waterford this weekend for the state title.

“If you told me that we were going to get two hits, I would’ve said you were crazy,” East Haven coach Ed Crisafi told the New Haven Register. “I thought we were really going to break out tonight, but we really haven’t been hitting. For the last few weeks we’ve been getting by on our pitching and defense.”

While disappointing, the loss marked the end of one of the strongest seasons in East Haven softball history. In his 20 years of running the program, this is the first time Crisafi has reached the state semifinals, according to the New Haven Register.

Not that there still wasn't disappointment.

“We just picked a bad day to have our worst game of the year," Crisafi  told the New Haven Register.
