The team looks strong early, off to a 3-0 start.

The few times the Lady Gaels put the bat on the ball the Yellowjacket defense was ready with some strong outfield play by Tiffany Brady and Annie Carbo. Allison Luzzi provided the leadership at shortstop, directing the infield and making some nice plays herself.

The decisive inning came in the fifth. With the score 8-3, the Yellowjackets stung for the final time with their bats. Catcher Giovanna Russo hit her second double of the game to lead off the inning. Miessau followed with a homer. After Alexi Palmer got on base with a triple, she stole home. Then, Fallon Spears worked out a walk. Tiffany Brady hit a hard ball up the middle, and later wound up stealing home to close out the scoring. Other helpful bats to mention are Lindsey Fatone and Annie Carbo.

Game #3 versus West Haven Blue Devils:

The Yellowjackets continued their early season success with an offensive explosion at West Haven last Friday, winning 10-9.

East Haven ran out to an 8-0 lead behind the strong pitching of Gabby Lamberti.  The story behind this day, however, was the amazing power the Yellowjackets showed in the first couple of innings.

The game started off with the first five East Haven batters moving West Haven’s outfield back as far as they could go without being on a hill. Ball after ball went further and further. After the first five hitters were done, they accumulated one single, two doubles, one triple and one homerun.

The Yellowjackets let West Haven back into the game in the bottom of the fourth, when the Blue Devils scored six of their nine runs.

But East Haven was determined not to let this game get away and ended the game with the same power it began it with. Allison Luzzi hit her second triple of the game as she hit in the winning run in the top of the seventh to take a 10-9 lead. Ireland Miessau closed the game out in the bottom of the inning to run East Haven’s record to 3-0.

The day ended with Gabby Lamberti having two doubles, Giovanna Russo, two doubles, Ireland Miessau, one homerun, and Allison Luzzi, two triples, one double and one single.
