Danbury Whalers Play in East Haven Saturday

Whalers head coach — and East Haven native — Phil Esposito brings his team to Patsy DiLungo Arena to face off against the Cape Cod Bluefins in exhibition play opener.

East Haven hockey fans get a double treat Saturday: two professional teams face off at the town rink and a local hockey hero returns to his home ice.

The Danbury Whalers, lead by head coach and East Haven native Phil Esposito, will meet the Cape Cod Blue Fins in the Connecticut team's exhibition play opener at the Patsy DiLungo Arena this Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds raised through Saturday's game will be donated to the , according to a report in The Greenwich Time.

Esposito was named the Whalers head coach and director of hockey operations in June. He served as the team's assistant coach for the 2010-11 season.

The coach also has an online presence with his "Ask Espo" feature on the hockey team's website.

Tickets for Saturday's game are $7 each. They are available the ice rink in advance, at the rink on game night or by callng 973-713-7547.
