VIDEO: East Haven Schools Superintendent Serio's Letter of Retirement

BOE Chairman Thomas Hennessey publicly reads aloud Anthony Serio's letter to the board announcing the East Haven native's retirement, after more than 38 years of serving the local school district.

After more than 38 years of serving as a teacher and administrator within the East Haven Public School District, the retirement of Superintendent of Schools Anthony Serio was officially announced during the school board's regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night.

Serio's decision to retire was first reported by East Haven Patch on Feb. 23. The East Haven native's last day on the job will be Aug. 31.

At Tuesday night's meeting, Board of Education Chairman Thomas Hennessey read aloud Serio's letter of retirement. Hennessey said Serio asked him to read the letter because the superintendent was concerned he would become too emotional during it. (see the video above)

Toward the end of this week's meeting the board did discuss in executive session the appointment of an interim superintendent upon Serio's departure.

Hennessey, however, told members of the media present at Tuesday's meeting  the BOE would not be taking any action on the decision that night.
