State Board of Ed Defines Excused Absences

You'll have to think twice the next time you decide to pull the kids out of school for a bit of fun outside the classroom — the Connecticut State Board of Education has laid down the law on what constitutes as an excused absence from school. 

According to a report from the Hartford Courant, the State Board of Education developed a new policy that states students with over nine absent days will only be excused in such cases as deaths in the family, illness, religious holidays and other emergencies. 

According to the Hartford Courant, this is the first time Connecticut's Board of Education has provided public schools throughout the state with a consistent definition for excused absences.

The policy is strict as even students missing class to spend time with military family before deployment would be penalized, according to the Hartford Courant.
