Hypodermic Needle & Pornography Found on Overbrook School Playground

Disturbing items have been discarded on the elementary school's grounds and playground which in turn have been found by the school children.

An East Haven parent contacted Patch to express her concerns over the safety at Overbrook Elementary School after a first grader found a hypodermic needle, pornography and other illicit items on the playground.

This parent also contacted the East Haven Police Department who told her they did not have enough police officers to patrol that area. They suggested parent groups from the neighborhood initiate a community patrolling program in the off- hours.

The parent said she would be discussing plans to this effect at the next PTO meeting which is October 8.

In a WTNH news report, another parent said this has been happening for months.

Amber Maroney said she has heard about empty beer and vodka bottles, a vibrator, lubricant packages, drug paraphernalia and more left on the grounds of the school, according to WTNH.

Maroney said she has contacted East Haven Police Department Chief Brent Larrabee and the superintendent of schools, according to the news report.

"There was a camera broken...they're trying to fix that, trying to get school employees to be more vigilant. We're trying to put some sort of patrols there.  It's been a bit somewhat of a challenge, but we're trying to do that," said Larrabee in the report to WTNH
