Activities: Visiting with Lily and her teacher, Lisa Brown, at Deer Run, it was clear that Lily loves to read and write. Reading is her favorite subject. “It makes people smarter,” said the Whiz Kid. Her favorite books are from the Junie B. Jones collection. "So far I have read about 10 of them," said Lily. "I have one right here, see?”
Brown had a few things to say about her student starting out with, “[School Principal] Bill Grimm made an excellent choice when he nominated Lily. She comes to school each day with a smile on her face, eager to learn. She loves to learn new things and many times goes home to practice new concepts on her own. She enjoys writing stories, practicing math facts and just about anything school-related.”

Although Lily doesn’t attend dance school, one of her favorite things to do when she isn’t in school is dance to music on her own.
Other Interests: Garcia enjoys spending time with her cousin Rebecca who lives with her family. “She is my best friend, and we’ve promised each other that we will always be best friends," said a smiling Lily. "Next year we will be in the same school. It will be fun."
Future Plans: Little Miss Garcia wants to be a dentist. When asked why, she simply retorted, “I like nice teeth, and I want to help people fix their teeth so they can have nice smiles.” She will be moving up and over to third grade at Ferrara School in the fall.
Accomplishments: Lily Garcia has great grades. “One of Lily’s biggest accomplishments for a young child is her respectfulness and willingness to learn,” said Principal Grimm.
Key to Awesomeness: When it comes to being awesome, Brown said, “Lily loves to help others and shows strong leadership qualities. She continues to work hard and is always ready for a challenge. If there is something Lily doesn’t understand, she makes it her goal to figure it out or find someone who can help her master it. She is kind to everyone at all times and is truly a model student.”
