Girls' Soccer and Volleyball End 2012 Seasons in States

The East Haven Yellow Jackets saw the girls' soccer team finish its season in the first round, while the volleyball team made it to the second round.

Two of East Haven High School's fall teams – girls' soccer and volleyball – extended the 2012 fall season past the regular season by earning a berth in the state tournament.

The girls' soccer team's 5-8-3 regular-season record earned the Yellow Jackets the No. 28 seed in the Class M State Tournament, forcing them on the road to take on fifth-seeded Tolland (13-2-1).

Despite a solid effort, East Haven lost to Tolland 3-2. The Yellow Jackets' proved their offensive strength as Tolland only allowed two goals in two games during the regular season – a 3-2 win over Rocky Hill on Sept. 28 and a 2-1 loss to RHAM on Oct. 12. Tolland shut out its opponent in eight games and had five games that it only allowed one goal.

In the Class M volleyball state tournament, East Haven was the No. 10 seed with a 12-6 regular-season record.

The Yellow Jackets hosted 23rd-seeded Ansonia (7-10) in the first round on Nov. 9. East Haven took a commanding 25-9, 25-16, 25-14 victory to advance to the second round.
