First Annual STEM Competition Finals Tonight

The brilliant minds of students from Joseph Melillo Middle School and East Haven Academy will fill the East Haven High School auditorium tonight.

This evening, the East Haven High School will play host to a sea of young, brilliant minds as the first annual STEM competition announces its winners.

The finalists for the competition, which is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, hail from Joseph Melillo Middle School (JMMS) and East Haven Academy.

“It is a program utilizing 21st-century technology in the classrooms,” said Tracy Shumway, a sixth-grade teacher at JMMS.

The cast of 15 judges includes 2009 East Haven High grad Kaitlyn Bellucci, who is currently majoring in chemical engineering at the University of Connecticut, and Town Engineer James Staunton.

The action kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
