East Haven High School Healthy Youth Week

 Monday, May 2, 2011, East Haven High School will kick off its first annual “Healthy Youth Week,” as part of a school-wide effort to educate its students on the importance making healthy decisions.
“East Haven consistently shows itself to be a caring and supportive community. This Healthy Youth Week is a way to bring community and business resources to help students make informed choices about their own well being.” said Steve Anderson, Principal at East Haven High School. “We are grateful for everyone’s help in making this educational experience a community project.”


During the course of the week, students will participate in a series of programs and activities designed to empower them to be happy and healthy. The schedule of events for the week is as follows:

Monday, May 2, 2011
Walk With an Administrator- students will get moving, and take a walk around school grounds with his/ her favorite administrator. Health Survey Presentation- students will be presented the results of a recent school-wide survey Guest Speakers- a member of the student body will share her story, along with a presentation by the State Police.

Tuesday, May 3, 2011
Mock Crash- Sponsored by the school’s SADD Program, the EHPD and EHFD will stage a mock car accident on school property. The Convincer- The State Police will provide students with the opportunity to see what it feels like to get in an accident when not wearing a seatbelt.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Blood Drive- EHHS will be joined by the American Red Cross. CPR/ Defibrillators Presentation- Students will be presented the proper techniques for administering CPR and defibrillation.

Thursday, May 5, 2011
Walk-A-Thon- Sponsored by the school’s HOSA Program, the entire student body will walk to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Local DJ Brian Poole will be providing participants with music that makes them move! Health Fair- From 9am- 12pm, local businesses, foundations, clinics, state departments, fitness centers, medical professionals, etc. will educate students on proper health.
Cyber Bullying Presentation- In the evening, the State Police will give a shocking presentation on the dangers of cyber bullying. Parents will also be invited to this event.

Friday, May 5, 2011
Theatre Performance- The Looking-In Theatre will share a series of performances focusing on relevant teenage issues, such as drug and alcohol abuse, peer pressure, depression, bullying and safe sex.
