EHHS Celebrates Diversity Day Through Food

A special meal was prepared by a guest chef to advocate one of the many meanings of diversity.

Recently, students at the East Haven High School (EHHS) celebrated “Diversity Day” through a virtual round-the-world trip of all different foods.

In the cafeteria, students and staff enjoyed a very special Guest Chef Day. Chef Rich Sandmann, from Whitsons School Nutrition, visited the school and prepared a delicious meal that embodied the spirit of “Diversity Day” at the high school.

The delicious menu included classic American specialties such as hand-carved rotisserie roast beef au jus on a roll, and various international specialties that reflected New Haven’s cultural diversity such as Middle Eastern homemade falafel with taboule, hummus and tzaziki sauce in a pita pocket; Sushi rolls (California, Philly, veggie, or spicy shrimp) served with Miso soup and spring green salad; Street Cart Taco Festival with Pork Carnitas, Grilled Chicken and Fish Tacos; and Italian fried dough with sauce or powdered sugar or grilled sausage and pepper subs.
