East Haven Mayor Proud Of New School Safety Plan

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. is proud of new safety plans for the town's schools, which were developed after the Newtown massacre.

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. believes the town's school safety plans he directed to be created will mean the children in East Haven schools will be safer, according to The Shoreline Times.

Following the December tragedy in Newtown, Maturo ordered the schools all create one safety plan, instead of each school having its own individual safety plan, according to The Shoreline Times.

“I wanted it to be uniform in every school,” Maturo told The Shoreline Times. “And they (police, fire and school officials) did a yeoman’s job following the procedures I wanted.”

The new plan forbids staff and students to prop doors open along with new policies on locking doors, according to The Shoreline Times. Also, a singular meeting place was created at each school, so the students and staff would know where to go, according to the newspaper.

“I wanted to make sure every parent knows where that location is,” Maturo told The Shoreline Times.
