East Haven Girls' Soccer and Volleyball Ready for States

State-tournament play starts tomorrow for two East Haven High School teams.

 

While the football team still has three regular-season games left, two other East Haven High School teams are getting ready for the state tournament. The state tournament has already been affected by weather as Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on the final week of the regular season, the opening day of states has now been pushed back due to the falling snow.

Girls' Soccer

The Yellowjackets girls' soccer team sqeaked into the Class M State Tournament with its 5-8-3 regular-season record. East Haven claimed the 28th seed.

Being seeded 28th won't give East Haven an easy road as the Yellowjackets will travel to Tolland on Friday, Nov. 9 for a 2 p.m. game against the No. 5 team that finished wtih a 13-2-1 regular-season record.

Volleyball

The East Haven volleyball team's 12-6 regular-season record not only qualified the Yellowjackets for the Class M State Tournament, but it also gave them the No. 7 in the SCC Tournament where they fell to 10th-seeded Guilford in the first round.

Now East Haven, seeded 10th in states, has its sights set on the Class M bracket, starting with 23rd-seeded Ansonia, which finished 7-10 in the regular season. The team meet in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 8 at East Haven at 6 p.m.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face Rocky Hill (13-5), the No. 7 seed that had a first-round bye, on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
