Deer Run Students 'Jump Rope for Heart'

"Jump Rope for Heart," a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, took place at Deer Run School in East Haven all last week.

Physical education teacher Jennifer Black at Deer Run School in East Haven has been working with students to raise donations for the American Heart Association.

The special fundraiser — "Jump Rope for Heart" — took place all last week.

Children jumped rope and raised funds for special hearts, according to art teacher Catherine McGarry.

In addition to the fundraising portion of Jump Rope for Heart, students also took part in a special art project.

"Children drew themselves particpating in their favorite activity," McGarry said. "These were displayed in a mural dipicting the State of Connecticut."

McGarry added that the first grade students worked on a collage technique in an art project.

"They drew themselves with correct proportions also deomonstrating their favorite activity," she said.

To help celebrate their work, McGarry put together a slideshow that captures some of the art work the students created.
