6th Grade Students of The Year

Angelina DeBenedet and Rachel Amatruda nail it.

Angelina DeBenedet and Rachel Amatruda were the sixth-grade recipients of the 2011 “Student of-the-Year Awards” at Joseph Melillo Middle School this past Tuesday. Both students were recognized for achieving high honors all year long, and were recently inducted into The National Honor Society.

Angelina is the daughter of Maria Bronson and Michael DeBenedet. David and Kim Amatruda are Rachel’s mom and dad.  Each girl has three siblings, and love their pets.

In addition to these exceptional awards, both girls received recognition in other areas for their achievements. Under the Unified Arts category, Angelina was recognized for her participation in the school band, where she plays the flute. Rachel was awarded in the Library category.

Due to the fact that the student bodies of the sixth grade at JMMS are so large, the children are divided into two teams and the teachers and guidance counselors are as well, to provide an even distribution of students who achieve different levels of academics.

On the Silver team, Angelina was awarded academically for science, language arts and integrated language arts. Rachel, a Red Team member, received awards for her academic strides in the categories of science, language arts and social studies.

I have personally known these girls since they were in first grade. They are very close friends with my daughter and truly remarkable children.  They excel in whatever they do --   in sports, dance, academics and especially in friendships and family.
