This Week's Program Highlights at Hagaman Library - for kids & teens

Cartooning with Jerry Craft, Storytelling with origami and The Lorax are just a few of this week's activities at Hagaman Memorial Library. And the air conditioning is working great!

Happy Monday! We hope you've been having a lot of fun as this summer speeds along, and we especially hope that some of that fun has been at Hagaman Library.

This week, we wanted to bring your attention to a couple of very special programs:

Stellaluna Storigami - On Wednesday, August 8, children of all ages are invited to a storytime with a twist - a paper twist, that is. Kids will be twisting and folding paper to create characters to tell the unforgettable story of Stellaluna, a young fruit bat who has some toe-curling adventures. The program starts at 10:30am and all materials are supplied. The paper-folding (origami) portion is recommended for kids age 6 and up, but everyone is welcome for the storytelling.

Cartooning with Jerry Craft - Thursday, August 9 at 2pm, Connecticut Humanities Council is sponsoring a very special cartooning workshop with Connecticut-based cartoonist, Jerry Craft. Teens will receive step-by-step instruction on how to use simple shapes to create your own cartoon character – with amazing results! Mr. Craft also includes a presentation on Mama’s Boyz, his award winning syndicated comic strip appearing in over 1500 newspapers around the world.

Registration for either program is required. Please visit www.hagamanlibrary.info and click on the "Events" tab to register (or link from the Patch's Events listing) or call 203-468-3890.

Finally, I want to remind everyone to visit us with your reading logs be no later than Friday, August 17 to make sure you get a raffle ticket for every five hours you've read between the end of school and that date. Tickets will be drawn on 8/22 - you do not need to be present to win - for prizes like movie tickets, gift cards, books, toys, and other surprises.

See you next week! - Ms. Sascha
