Splash Pad Survived Would Conference Center?

My thoughts and prayers go out to the many residents of East Haven and beyond who recently weathered Hurricane Sandy.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the many residents of East Haven and beyond who recently weathered Hurricane Sandy.

As I was looking at recent pictures of the devastation at the shoreline this latest storm has left in it's wake one which will continue to be felt for sometime to come by those residents who now must repair and rebuild not only their homes but their personal lives I was thinking about a few things that came to mind.

One of those things is here on Patch we often read from our neighbors how much they dislike the splash pad that was built by former Mayoral Adminastration. Yet those same people fail to mention  what a tremendous waste of money and risk to Public Safety it would have been had Mayor Maturo in his last tenure been given the green light to proceed with his plans.

The Mayor had planned to build a building that would house a Conference Center and a home for The East Haven Historical Society to place precious East Haven historical documents and items that cannot be replaced once they are lost as well as an Emergency Shelter directly across from long island sound where the splash pad now stands.

The location of this building given what we have been through in the last two years with last years devastating storm and the more recent Hurricane Sandy would have been to say the least a very foolish move that could have very well ended up costing the loss of historical documents and quite possibly the loss of East Haven Residents lives.

I thank the former administration for having the insight to give the residents of East Haven something that we can all enjoy and that serves to enhance the beach area and not something the likes that Mayor Joe would have given us which could have left us with possibly irreplaceable losses.

The next time one condems the splash pad they should be reminded what could have been instead and what we as residents stood to lose.

I know within my heart that East Haven Residents will rebuild and recover because in times of strife we are a community that comes together to help one another.
