As many readers are aware the Town of East Haven has enacted it's winter snow ordinance as part of that snow is to be removed from sidewalks and public walkways within 24 hrs of a snowstorm.
Clearly the town is failing to live up to and honor it's obligations to the residents of the Foxon Area and across town.
Curb cuts are installed to make accessibility of sidewalks and travelways easier for residents with disabilites as well as seniors and the many families of East Haven who live in the town and use the sidewalks as a means of venturing from one point to another.
The problem here is that this system fails to operate safely when the town does not fulfill it's obligation to the residents of the town when the snow ordinance is not only not enforced but as is the case in the shown picture that the snow is actually plowed onto the surface of the curbcut and is clearly blocking access to and from the curbcut.
This then in some cases forces the residents of The Foxon area and other areas in town to walk directly in the line of traffic.
I as councilman would work with the Mayor to ensure that this problem is avoided in the future and that residents can safely travel around town and the children and families of our community are kept safe from harm.
The safety of our residents must come first and foremost and by working together this is an achievable goal that is easily within our grasp.
