On the other side of The Fence?

Clearing up some misconceptions.

It's Interesting that around around the homes of residents here in East Haven there are fences of all types some are made of wood, some are made of plastic they come in various heights, widths and lengths and a wide assortment of colors.

The one thing that I have yet to see however,is a fence that is painted one solid color on one side let's say red for instance and the other side painted a entirely different color lets say blue for instance.

Now just for the fun of it let's say there was a sidewalk in front of the fence and those residents who stood on the blue side of the fence threw rocks at everyone living in the house that was behind the red side of the fence.

The residents of the house on the yellow side of the fence then in return threw rocks at those residents standing on the sidewalk on the blue side of the fence.

Residents in the house and residents on the street would be afraid to approach one another and have serious discussions that would benefit their community for fear they would be injured by a rock thrown by someone on the otherside of the fence.

I believe that our elected officals should be held accountable for their actions regardless if they are on the blue or red side of the fence.

The funny thing about fences is that most of them also contain a gate of some sort it may also be comprised of wood, metal, plastic nonetheless it is a gate a way of people who are on either side of the fence to safely cross through to the otherside and begin safely communicating with one another without getting hit by a rock.

I have friends that are on the Red Side of the Fence and even though I am on the Blue side of the fence we can and quite often do open the gate and share our ideas and views with one another on a wide variety of subjects without managing to pick up a rock and throw it at one another.

East Haven is comprised of many residents who choose to engage in the political process but if we continually throw rocks at one another will we ever truly grow and prosper as a community or will we just continue to point fingers and duck rocks being thrown?

Before I close I would like to add that I have had differences with elected officals from both sides of the fence from time to time but as I was recently accussed of in another column I do not "Hate" anyone.

I may have a strong dislike of one's policies and for that person but I do not "Hate" anyone as "Hating" people only leads to more "Hating" and erodes the gates opening to communications that need to be open to making East Haven the best it can be for all residents.

Now my friends and neighbors the choice is yours will you be a rock thrower or a communicator that is part of the solution and not part of the problem?

It's the dawn of a new day and it's time for us to put down our rocks and open up the lines of communications here in East Haven.
