When The New Foxon Park WW2 Memorial was unveiled Saturday May 26 in front of a large crowd of 60-70 people made up of small children Young adults and seniors stood witness to the unveiling however absent from that occasion were both Mayor Joe Maturo and Senator Leonard Fasano.
Attending today’s ceremony on the East Haven Green to honor our town’s veterans Mayor Joe Maturo was there and spoke about what the occasion meant to him and “Our” Religion.
I was in shocked here we were on the town green to honor our veterans who have given so much to protect our freedoms among them the right to worship as we please and the towns religious diversity is amazing ranging from Christian to Jewish to Buddhism to Jehovah witnesses.
Yet on this solemn occasion the Mayor once again spoke of “Our” religion as if to imply as there was only religion in East Haven.
From where I was standing I could see the different dignitaries up on the stage including State Representative James Albis, Fire Marshall Anthony Moscato, Fire Chief Doug Jackson and many others.
Yet oddly enough just as on Saturday at the unveiling of the Foxon Park World War 2 Monument Senator Leonard Fasano was missing from the ceremony in which the town came together to honor our veterans.
If we are to accept the excuse that this was a special occasion and he couldn’t make it to today’s event for that reason then isn’t it strange that he couldn’t attend Saturday’s event either? I believe that if Senator Fasano truly wanted to attend either or both events to honor our towns veterans he could have found a way.
If Senator Fasano could not be bothered to attend either ceremony to honor East Haven’s Veterans then why in November should East Haven’s Veterans and their families honor him with their votes?
