Town Conducting Interviews for Economic Development Coordinator

New official will play matchmaker for commercial property owners and business tenants.

Mayor April Capone will hold interviews this week for the new position of economic development coordinator.

Representatives of the South Central Regional Council of Governments, REX Development, a regional economic development agency, and the town Economic Development Commission will also participate, according to East Haven Director of Administration & Management Paul Hongo.

The part-time coordinator will help local commercial property owners connect with businesses that might relocate to East Haven.

In many other towns the economic development director is a full-time job. East Haven officials say if this works out, the Town Council could make the position full time in the future.

Hongo said nine resumes have been received. Several of those people have worked for other towns in a similar capacity and are attracted to the East Haven position because it is part time, he added.

Another role the coordinator might play is to follow up on the conducted this spring by the Economic Development Commission.

"I’m excited about this economic development coordinator. I believe it’s going to be good," Hongo said.
