Town Conducting Interviews for Economic Development Coordinator

New official will play matchmaker for commercial property owners and business tenants.

Mayor April Capone will hold interviews this week for the new position of economic development coordinator.

Representatives of the South Central Regional Council of Governments, REX Development, a regional economic development agency, and the town Economic Development Commission will also participate, according to East Haven Director of Administration & Management Paul Hongo.

The part-time coordinator will help local commercial property owners connect with businesses that might relocate to East Haven.

In many other towns the economic development director is a full-time job. East Haven officials say if this works out, the Town Council could make the position full time in the future.

Hongo said nine resumes have been received. Several of those people have worked for other towns in a similar capacity and are attracted to the East Haven position because it is part time, he added.

Another role the coordinator might play is to follow up on the conducted this spring by the Economic Development Commission.

"I’m excited about this economic development coordinator. I believe it’s going to be good," Hongo said.

With all the empty storefronts in town, seems like an awful big job for a part-time position. Sorry April. It's too little, too late. Looks like desperation is setting in.

you know whos daughter in law using her maiden name like that will confuse the taxpayers hear she got a 20k bump in salary as well.

Clint, I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't there an article on Patch last week that talked about the young woman currently working at Town Hall (I believe she now has the job that James Albis had prior to his moving to Hartford). It went on to say that now she would now be doing 2 part-time jobs and could spend her full day doing whichever job needed more attention. I also remember that someone commented that she was Ralph Mauro's daughter-in-law - if so she's using her maiden name to keep Dad and Aunt April from catching more nepotism flack.

its true now what about those resumes lol i bet there was someone way more qualified for the job but hey,why give it to one more qualified lets feed the family.

I hope they are all out on their butts in November!! APRIL's GOTTA GO!

I figured the job would go to a friend, but I never expected Capone would do something as blatant as giving the job to Ralph Mauro's daughter in law. She must really think the tax payers are dumb! CORRUPT CAPONE!!!

To Stupid Tax Payer. Here is the proof that the job was handed to Ralph's Daughter in Law. http://easthavenvine.blogspot.com/2011/07/more-east-haven-corruption-ask-mr-mauro.html

Hey guys. As much as I like to point the finger at this administration, the previous article on Ralph's Daughter in law said she was hired as the "Housing Authority Director and community development coordinator". She was NOT hired as the Economic Development Coordinator. I think COMMUNITY development coordinator and ECONOMIC development Coordinator are 2 different jobs. Meanwhile, what were her qualifications for the JOBS she DID get--other than "family"? And yes nepotism in this administration is rampant, but I think they are 2 different jobs. Otherwise Hongo is an idiot for being interviewed for THIS article AFTER the other article was published.

I would like to THANK Dan McCann for bringing the 78 Vacant storefronts to light. It was at that moment that April, Gene, and the rest of this present administration realized that they had to do something to protect votes during an election year. It is you Dan that deserves the credit for waking a sleeping "DOG" and provoling this administration to due something to try and offset the tax burden placed on the reidents of East Haven. I thank you...
