'Taco Joe's Gotta Go' Sign Vandalized (VIDEO)

East Haven Police are investigating the incident — caught on surveillance video — which occurred Sunday at the Kimberly Avenue law office of former Town Attorney Patty Cofrancesco.

A sign erected by the East Haven Democratic Town Committee calling for the ouster of Republican Mayor Joseph Maturo was vandalized Sunday — and the incident was caught on tape, according to a report in the New Haven Register.

The sign, placed on the property of the law offices of former Town Attorney , reads: "Taco Joe's Gotta to Go," in reference to the East Haven mayor's now following the for allegedly of Latino residents and others.

East Haven DTC Chairman publicly called for shortly after the taco comment went viral and became a . Although other groups and have also called for him to resign, Maturo has repeatedly said he has no intention of stepping down from his post.

The damage to the sign, which was caught by the law office's surveillance cameras (see video posted above), is being investigated by .

'17% Rollback'

A second sign on Cofrancesco's law office property, placed just above the first, appears not to have been damaged by the alleged vandals.

That sign reads: "Where is the 17% rollback? Call Mayor Maturo 203-468-3204."

This is in reference to a promise Maturo allegedly made to voters during last fall's campaign — and a question frequently asked and posted by the mayor's critics here on East Haven Patch.

'Cease and Desist'

Confrancesco has received a cease and desist order from the town's zoning department ordering her to remove the signs, The Register reports.

But the New Haven resident, who was for the Board of Police Commissioners following the of now , said she intends to fight the order to keep the Democratic Party's signs calling for the mayor's ouster up.
