RI Legislator Arrested Again for Marijuana

State Rep. Robert A. Watson, arrested in East Haven last April, faces a second set of drug charges after he was allegedly found driving erratically with a flat tire in Rhode Island early Sunday morning.

The Rhode Island legislator who was on DUI and drug charges has been arrested again on similar charges, according to an Associated Press report.

Rep. Robert A. Watson, the former Republican House Minority for the Rhode Island state legislature, reportedly was charged with possession of marijuana after a snow plow operator reported he was driving erratically on a flat tire early Sunday morning.

Officers reported they found marijuana in the East Greenwich, RI resident's car and a smoking pipe.

Watson on Foxon Road when he was stopped by an East Haven Police Department DUI checkpoint.

Police said he failed a sobriety test, his breath smelled like alcohol and his clothes smelled like marijuana. A search by police found Watson had a small quantity of marijuana and a smoking pipe in his pocket.

A breathalyzer test, however, found he had a blood alcohol level of 0.05 percent, which is under the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

He was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In October, Watson to the East Haven charges in New Haven Superior Court.
