Oni Sioson To Run For East Haven Mayor As An Independent

Sioson, who last ran for mayor in 2011, needs to collect 81 signatures to get his name on the ballot.

Oni Sioson, a Navy veteran, has announced that he will run for mayor of East Haven this year as an independent.

Sioson needs to collect 81 certified signatures - or 1 percent of the amount of voters in the last mayoral election - to get his name on the ballot this November. The New Haven Register reports that Sioson ran for mayor several times before, most recently in 2011, and has also served on the East Haven Board of Education.

“The town deserves better,” Sioson wrote in an email Monday, according to the newspaper. “It does not deserve the ridicule and notoriety that incompetence exacerbated by ignorance produces. It is not about bringing back Town Hall as the Democrats aspire to accomplish or maintaining power at any cost as the Republicans hope to achieve.”
