New Councilman Draws Upon Science, Economics

New councilman Andrew Esposito cites expertise in complex system analysis as valuable for his new role.

Andrew Esposito said his science and economics background, along with his familiarity of complex systems, would be beneficial in his new position as a member of the East Haven Legislative Town Council.

"East Haven is entering a complex period of history," he said. He added that this makes it important to understand how events interact and affect each other.

Esposito was appointed by the Council on Tuesday to fill the 5th District seat left vacant by the resignation of Diane Badamo, who moved out of town. He is a Democrat and is running for the seat on the party’s ticket in the November election.

The newly appointed councilman previously served on the Police Commission, the Planning & Zoning Commission and the Plan of Development Commission during Mayor Hank Luzzi’s administration.

Recently he was involved in the fight for responsible development of the old Dwyer Farm, known for the last decade as the Oakledge development.

Esposito said his experience with the Oakledge battle convinced him the 5th District needed a stronger voice on the Town Council.

He holds Bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and mathematics and a Master’s degree in complex systems analysis from John Hopkins University.

During the Vietnam War he served in the U.S. Army at Edgewood Arsenal National Defense Laboratory conducting research on radiation chemistry.
