Naugatuck Resident, Radio Host, to Run for Congress in 2012

Wayne Winsley seeking 3rd Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Rosa DeLauro.

A Naugatuck resident, author and former radio host will formally announce next week his candidacy for the Congressional seat currently held by Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro.

Wayne Winsley, a borough resident, already has a campaign site in place, however he plans on formally announcing his bid for the 3rd Congressional District on Sat. Oct. 29, at noon on the New Haven Green.

According to his biography, Winsley, a Republican, was born in Ohio and grew up part of his life in a housing project and an orphanage. He served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer, where he trained as a jet engine mechanic, military police officer and special weapons handler.

Winsley is a former morning news anchor for ten years, on 1350AM WNLK/WSTC in Norwalk and WICC 600AM in Bridgeport. For ten years he was the host of his own talk show, The Wayne Winsley Program on WINE 940AM in Danbury, his website stated.

He also worked on the gubernatorial campaign of Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and a coalition chairman for Republican Tom Foley’s gubernatorial bid.

“Wayne is committed to pro-growth policies including business tax relief, regulatory reform, and reduced government spending, meaningful educational reform to make U.S. students more competitive for next generation jobs., and  repeal-replace of Obamacare,” according to his website.

DeLauro, of New Haven, has held office in the 3rd Congressional District for 22 years. She has yet to formally announce her bid to run again in 2012.

DeLauro in 2010 by a wide margin. The challenger at the time, Jerry Labriola Jr., won Naugatuck, however lost handedly throughout the district.
