McMahon To Stump For Finkle

The former U.S. Senate candidate is expected at Republican mayoral candidate John Finkle's April 21 fundraiser.

Republican Linda McMahon, the U.S. Senate candidate who lost to Democrat Richard Blumenthal last November, is scheduled to speak at mayoral candidate John Finkle's first fundraiser of the season, according to Finkle campaign manager, Joe Zullo.

"It is a tremendously positive sign that Linda McMahon has taken an interest in John's campaign for Mayor," Zullo wrote in a statement. "The fact that Linda is taking time out of her busy schedule to speak at our event is an enormous boost for the event and the campaign as a whole."

Finkle, a Republican, will likely face a primary from former five-term Mayor Joe Maturo, who announced on March 21 he is going for the same Town Hall prize. Since , some Republican Town Committee members have reportedly jumped ship from Finkle to Maturo, according to inside sources who asked not to be named. Though party chair Lou Crisci said he is holding steadfast in his commitment to Finkle.

"I'm thrilled that Linda has agreed to come and share her message," Finkle, a former chair, was quoted in the statement. "Linda’s message last election was clear and it is a message that applies all too well here in East Haven given the town's three consecutive deficit budgets."

Finkle has chosen Town Councilman Ken McKay as a "running mate" for the November election. McKay had originally entertained his own run for mayor but decided instead to go for town clerk on Finkle's ticket.

"A will not tolerate the deficit spending the current administration has practiced for three consecutive years," Finkle was quoted. "Our message will be clear. Getting spending under control is an essential first step in the process of bringing residents relief from the impact of the Mayor's 17% tax increase."

The fundraiser will be held at the Country House Restaurant on Route 80; time not yet established. FMI, call Zullo at 203-927-0871. Visit www.johnfinkleformayor.com for campaign updates.
