Mayor Capone Almon Named to State Task Force On Women

Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney appoints East Haven Mayor to
Permanent Commission on the Status of Women

Senator Looney says Mayor April Capone Almon's experience and knowledge
will be of great value to commission

New Haven: Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney (D-New Haven) is pleased
to announce that he has appointed East Haven Mayor April Capone Almon to
be a volunteer member of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women
(PCSW).

The position, which is unpaid, begins immediately and ends on June 30,
2012. In a letter to Mayor Almon, Senator Looney wrote, "I am confident
that your experience and knowledge will be of great value to the
Commission. I greatly appreciate your willingness to make this significant
commitment."

Senator Looney says the, "Mayor April Capone Almon
understands that issues such as domestic violence, access to affordable
daycare, and pay-equity aren't just women's issues - they affect us all. I
thank her for accepting this position and pledging to work hard on behalf
of families in Connecticut."

"I am very grateful to Senator Looney for providing me the opportunity to
volunteer for this prestigious commission," said Mayor Almon. "I have long
believed that equality increases the quality of life for all of us; women,
children and men.  I look forward to serving the people of Connecticut as
a member of the PCSW and ensuring that the issues that are so vital to our
society continue to be addressed."

In its list of goals for the 2011 legislative session, the PCSW ranks
helping small businesses, reducing workplace discrimination, and
increasing access to health care as some of its top priorities.

The PCSW is a non-partisan arm of the General Assembly that monitors,
critiques and recommends changes to legislation to inform public policy,
and assesses programs and practices in State agencies for their effect on
the state's women.
