State of the Town: 'We Will Continue to Do More With Less' [DOCS]

Unable to attend Mayor Maturo's "State of the Town Address" earlier this week? Have no fear: the full speech and proposed budget PowerPoint is posted right here.

Budget season is in full swing here in East Haven.

And on Tuesday, Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr gave the annual "State of the Town Address."
The special meeting also included a special presentation of his proposed budget for the new fiscal year.

Maturo's Proposed Budget

Maturo has put on the table a $87.1 million budget for 2013-14, which would represent a 0.55 percent spending increase over the town's current budget.

"Specifically, I am budgeting approximately $87.1 million dollars in revenue and $86.1 million dollars in expenses," Maturo stated during his budget address. "When we add in the $1 million dollar contribution to our Town savings account (or fund balance), you can see I’m proposing a total budget of $87.1 million dollars."

The mayor added that this would mean tax rates would remain unchanged for residents in the new fiscal year.

"Thanks to sound fiscal management, my recommendation and plan is to keep taxes exactly where they are," Maturo stated during his presentation.

Town Council Budget Review, Approval

The proposed spending plan now goes to the Town Council, which ultimately sets and approves the town's yearly budgets.

Council members began the process that review on Wednesday and will continue with a series of budget subcommittee meetings over the next several days.

The current subcommittee meeting dates, and their agenda, are as follows:
