Maturo Taps Monaco To Handle The Money

Republican mayoral candidate Joe Maturo has brought on local attorney Linda Monaco to be his campaign treasurer.

A week ago, former Republican East Haven Mayor Joe Maturo told his party he was taking another swing at his old Town Hall seat. He lost his rebid in 2007 by 25 votes to April Capone, after having served five terms. This week Maturo made another announcement: He's tapped local attorney Linda Monaco to handle his campaign dough.

In a written statement, Maturo said, "I am elated that Linda has agreed to serve as my Campaign Treasurer. Election finance laws have become complex in recent years and I believe that Linda's background as an attorney and her recent experiences as a candidate make her the ideal person to take on this task."

Monaco unsuccessfully challenged then-state Rep. Mike Lawlor last November for his 99th District seat. She ran against another Democrat, James Albis, in February's special election to fill Lawlor's vacated seat (he resigned in January to work for the Malloy administration). Monaco lost that race, 1,425-1,329.
