Maturo: 'Growing Financial Concerns' Leads to Lower-Cost Inauguration

East Haven Mayor-elect Joseph Maturo Jr will hold his inauguration ceremony at Town Green gazebo this Saturday beginning at noon.

Maturo for Mayor Campaign Co-Chairman Paul Carbo announced today that the Inauguration Ceremony for Mayor-Elect Joe Maturo, Jr. and other officials elected in last week's election will be held Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m., at the Gazebo on the .

Carbo explained, "The public is invited. There will be limited chair seating for those who are unable to stand for the duration of the event. We encourage all those interested in attending to come for this exciting event."

This year's inauguration bucks the trend of holding the event indoors at a town-owned building like the or .

When asked why the mayor chose to hold the event outdoors, he explained, "Over the past few days, it has become abundantly clear that the town is facing some extreme financial challenges. I want to send a message that, right up to the Mayor's Office, we are going to cut out the fluff in government and make it run as efficiently as possible. To that end, we are cutting out some of the higher-costs aspects of an indoor inauguration."

While the move from indoors to outdoors means lower costs, it does not mean there will be any less officials or groups in attendance.

Pete Cianelli, a member of Maturo's transition team helping to organize the event, indicates that local Boy Scout and Girl Scout Honor Guards will be in attendance along with volunteer Honor Guards from the and .

Cianelli explained, "Many local and state officials have confirmed they will be attending. The event is shaping up to be a beautiful ceremony."

Maturo concluded, "I look forward to the ceremony, and more than that, taking office and beginning to tackle the challenges that East Haven is currently facing. I want this ceremony to send the message that we are going to make every dollar count and make government run more efficiently for the people of East Haven."
