Maturo Eyes Running for Mayor as Independent

Joseph Maturo, East Haven's former mayor, fills the paperwork needed to run against the Republican and Democratic candidates.

The 2011 race for the mayor's office just became more interesting.

Joseph Maturo, the former mayor of East Haven, will run as an independent candidate after losing the Republican nomination, reports the East Haven Courier.

According to the article, Mauro filed the papers in Town Hall on Tuesday.

John Finkle, the former Board of Education chairman, is running on the Republican ticket. Incumbent April Capone, a Democrat, is running for a third term.

Maturo served five terms as mayor before losing by 22 votes in 2007 to Capone. In July, Finkle with 38 votes over Maturo's 22 from the Republican Town Committee.

At the convention, Maturo said he hasn't made a decision to seek a primary, but the deadline for forcing a primary passed on Wednesday.
