Lieberman Calling it Quits; Bysiewicz, Murphy & McMahon On Bench for the Senate Seat

New York Times reports Lieberman is leaving his U.S. Senate post after four terms.

According to the New York Times, U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) will not seek a fifth term next year. Still bruising after his 2006 Democratic primary defeat against Ned Lamont, who lost his bid for governor in the Democratic primary last year, Lieberman has lost much of his support and is calling it quits.

Tuesday, former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz filed papers to run for Lieberman's seat. It is rumored, according to the Times, that Congressman Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) might also join the race.

On the Republican side, the Times reports that Linda McMahon is considering a go for Lieberman's Senate post. McMahon, a wrestling tycoon, lost her $50 million bid against U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal last year for Chris Dodd's seat.
