It's Aug. 1: East Haven Town Taxes Are Due

It's the first day of August. And that doesn't just mean the shoreline has entered the dog days of summer.

In East Haven, today is also the deadline for residents to pay their motor vehicle tax bill — as well as the first installment for all real estate and personal property taxes.

Taxes are due to be postmarked or paid in person at the at town hall, 250 Main Street, by Aug. 1, 2012.

For those who lost or did not receive a tax bill in the mail — which included this year — residents can call 203–468–3307 to get a copy.

Taxpayers seeking to appeal their motor vehicle property tax assessment can and through Aug. 20.

Second Installment

The second installment must be paid in person or postmarked by no later than Feb. 1.

No tax bill is sent out for the second installment.

Town officials remind residents that it is the responsibility of the taxpayer to send in the second installment.

Online Tax Payments

In addition to the mail and in-person payments, the also accepts online payments via credit cards and E-checks.

And there are three different ways to pay:

• Call 1–800–2PayTax (1–800–272–9829)
• Use your Credit Card online at www.officialpayments.com
• Pay with an E-check online at www.officialpayments.com/echeck

The East Haven jurisdiction code is "1782" for the Officials Payments service.

Town officials noted, however, that the taxpayer is responsible for all fees associated with online payments.

The East Haven Tax Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is also open the last Saturday in July from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
