Is There Money To Sustain All-Day K? Capone & Serio Respond

After the Board of Finance handed Mayor April Capone its recommendations on her FY'12 budget Wednesday evening, she and school Superintendent Anthony Serio were asked if the proposed all-day kindergarten program is put in place this September, would there be money in the following years to keep it going. The estimated operating cost is roughly $440,000 anually.

For FY'12, there's $1 million left from the federal stimulus grant and teachers won't get raises, leaving money to potentially fund the expanded kindergarten day. After that, no stimulus money and teachers get a pay hike.
