A possible vote to give Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr the green light to apply for a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant was on the agenda, but eventually removed to be considered at a later time.

The East Haven Town Council will have to wait a little longer to give Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr the approval to file an application with the state for a Small Cities Community Development Grant.

The agenda item that would have allowed the board to consider and then possiblly vote on the mayor's request was removed from the council's agenda for last night's meeting.

That removal came at the request of Arthur DeSorbo, East Haven's director of administration and management, in the form of a letter sent to Town Council Chairman Richard Anania.

Council members then unanimously voted to approve the removal of the item from last night's meeting's agenda.

Original Story (Tuesday at 5 a.m.)

The East Haven Town Council will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting tonight at the beginning at 7:30 p.m.

According to the meeting's rather light agenda — which is posted in the gallery that accompanies this article — the board will consider approving a resolution authorizing Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. to "file an application with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development to obtain monies under the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program."

There is no indication on the agenda as to what proposed community developement project the block grant funds, if approved, would be used for in town.

Last fall, East Haven was awarded for the town's to help low- and moderate-income homeowners rehabilitate their homes.

Fifteen units are anticipated to be rehabilitated. Upgrades include roof replacement, heating systems, window replacement, and any other repairs needed to improve the general condition of the units.

Also at tonight's town council meeting, members will review recent correspondances to the board, hear reports from the council's subcommittee heads, as well as vote upon a $522.58 tax refund for Ryder Truck Rental.
