DePalma Officially Throws His Hat Into East Haven Mayoral Race Ring

Gary DePalma, a veteran member of the East Haven Police Department and current Democratic town council member, has announced the formation of a exploratory committee for the upcoming mayor's race in East Haven next year.

The following is a press release form Gary DePalma's Mayoral Race Exploratory Committee.

Life-long East Haven resident Gary DePalma is officially announcing the formation of an exploratory committee to enter the 2013 East Haven Mayoral race.

“I have worked in public service for over 25 years; my family has been civically active in East Haven for close to 60 years. I would be honored to continue my service to this town in a new capacity.”

Gary DePalma is currently a Democratic Member of the East Haven Town Council and former Vice-Chairman of the Council.

Gary is a 26 year veteran of the East Haven Police Department (Sergeant) he lives in town with his Mist and 3 children. “In the coming months, I look forward to meeting with East Haven residents and sharing our vision for the future of this great town.”

[Editor's note: DePalma is now the second resident to officially announce his intentions to seek the East Haven Mayor's Office. Earlier this year, fellow Democrat Jack Stacey also announced he would be seeking East Haven's top elected spot, as well. At this time, Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr has yet to confirm if he will run for re-election in 2013.]

The reality is that Connecticut is increasingly going dark blue. (Meaning liberal) Apparently Republicans believe that they must pretend to be liberals in order to win. This is the epitome of dishonesty. DePalma can't even tell the truth about his party affiliation. Why should we believe anything else he has to say?
Elephant November 15, 2012 at 05:15 PM
Lauren, condescension does not facilitate rational discussion. Besides I simply don't believe you.
Lauren Toothe November 15, 2012 at 05:22 PM
Your beliefs are not my concern. My concern is voting for Gary. Even if he was a republican I would vote for him, because I vote for what is RIGHT; not for what party a candidate affiliates with.
Elephant November 15, 2012 at 05:22 PM
Lauren, you are hopelessly naive. Call up The League of Conservation Voters and ask for a copy of their voting records. Then call CCDV and ask them about the rate of domestic violence among police officers. Ask them about incidences of of victims getting punished and perpetrators getting rewarded. Call NOW, PETA, Greanpeace and Clean Water Action. Then tell me you vote for issues and not political parties. From my perspective you sound like a Republican cop supporting phony.
Lauren Toothe November 15, 2012 at 05:33 PM
Gary didnt ditz the party, he ran and won on the democratic late. Maybe he got tired of the damage being done to the community by a select few running the party. Community well being will always take precedence over the well being of the few in it for personal gain. Mindless followers who do what they are told aren't the solution. Its the PROBLEM. But elephant, you are certaintly entitled to your opinion as am I. Call me a phony. Call me naive. I am voting for whats RIGHT. I trust that Gary won't stand for some of the corruption that goes on in the system. You can believe generalizations. You can judge me. It just proves that you are one of the mindless followers.
The_Sun November 15, 2012 at 05:51 PM
Lauren are you trying to be offensive or merely obtuse?
Lauren Toothe November 15, 2012 at 05:58 PM
I'm stating my opinion, I see nothing offensive in what I said.
jaymegee November 15, 2012 at 06:01 PM
This is great, a corrupt cop who stole pot and pills from us when we were kids running for mayor!! Love it! I am so grateful I left EH!!

I have been following quietly along but I did notice the following statement placed by Mrs Toothe,"Community well being will always take precedence over the well being of the few in it for personal gain" I find this statement to be part of the problem as Mrs Toothe is apprently unaware that on top of his Regular Pay as a Police Sargent Mr Depalma also works almost all the overtime that becomes available and on top of that gets paid to sit on town council. So Mrs Toothe can you please clarify your statement for us because from where I'm sitting it looks like Mr. Depalma has been doing his share of lining his pockets and may very well be in it for as you say Personal gain.

Mr Megee, Those are some pretty big accusations do you have any proof?
Paganini November 15, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Pardon me for being blunt, however, DePalma appears to be a self serving, dishonest, member of the EHPD good old boys club. Hardly a rouge maverick. LOL!
Lauren Toothe November 15, 2012 at 06:33 PM
With all due respect Mr.Hoff, the key word you used was work for his money. That would indicate a dedicated employee who cares for his job. The fact that he does it means others must have turned it down. And he was elected to the town council. That to me means a dedicated, hard working, community-minded person. Not a bad resume if you ask me. As for elephant..I post under my real name, so who's the real phony? Have a great night, everyone!
laserlight November 15, 2012 at 06:33 PM
Lauren, you appear to be on a first name basis with "Gary". Would you care to elaborate? I hate to pry, however, it appears as if your objectivity is clouded.
Stardust November 15, 2012 at 06:37 PM
OMG! DePalma stole pills and pot! LOL!
Stardust November 15, 2012 at 06:42 PM
Lauren, obviously you feel infinitely safe and protected. Kudos to you! Most of us are not afforded that luxury because of the misogynistic, incompetent, corrupt police officers who are unwilling to to do their jobs. BTW, profiling is NOT protection.
Stardust November 15, 2012 at 06:44 PM
Chiding others for refusing to compromise safety and security for your selfish need to name a scapegoat is bad manners.

I've read most of the comments but I'd just like to add my opinion. I think whoever runs for mayor obviously wants the position for any number of reasons. Now, that being said, some have better reasons than others. What Gary's motive is, I do not know. Maybe he wants to make the town better? We don't know. So I suggest we should give all of the potential candidates the benefit of the doubt.
ASmith November 16, 2012 at 04:55 AM
Ah, I can smell it in the air, the whiff of the old mayoral election season in our burg is upon us folks. smells like a cross between a skunk scent and high tide. Its gonna be a humdinger too. Why we got ourselves Mayor Jo(k)e aka Taco Joe, Jack Stacey aka nobackbone, and now Sgt Schultz Depalma, aka "I see nothin, I see nothin". This burgs poolitical parties done give us a wonderful choice. The current occupant of 250 Main makes fools of us all rakin in the pay pretendin he runs the town , Stacey scared of his own shadow, like a cat stuck in an outhouse, and Depalma, heck he saw nothin, nothin while he was in charge of the shift for all those fellas that got arrested. well, we only need one more clown to throw his hat in the ring, and we can have ourselves a real ole time circus. hard to believe that this burg cant muster up a single smart honest brave folk to run the place.
Frank Capone November 16, 2012 at 01:26 PM
A Smith what do you know about Jack Stacey to say he has nobackbone??? He is a Viet Nam Vet, that has been in leadership rolls in many NON PAYING civic org. He is liked by both political and non political folks. He is a man on a mission to bring back pride and sanity to East Haven!!! Is it because he conducts himself as a gentleman that you are inclined to make that statement, please don't be fooled, still waters run deep. We now have a smart, honest, brave candidate to run the place. Respectablly submitted.
Robert D. Hoff - Working for a better East Haven November 16, 2012 at 04:32 PM
Well Stated Mr. Capone
Sanity November 16, 2012 at 04:36 PM

Tracy Petry November 16, 2012 at 05:20 PM
He has my vote too, George. I've only met Sgt DePalma in a professional manner, but found him to be thoroughly professional, compassionate, honest and kind. Best of luck to him!
ASmith November 17, 2012 at 04:40 AM
got me confused with some friend of yours fella. taint never worked for this burg. jes live and pay my taxes here. retired from the railroad a few moons ago. got no relatives in politics dont owe no folk nothin. both poolitical parties in this burg are waste of time. jes feel mr. stacy got no backbone since he never spoke out bout nothin. never saw him at any town meetins for the last 30 years. didnt hear a wick from em the ten years joke was in office before, didnt hear a wick from em durin the luzzi debacle, didnt hear a wick from em when we had the pretty lady mayor. now he jes drops down outta the sky. iffin he had back bone he'd spoke up long time ago. Sgt Schultz Depalma make ya laugh enough to cry. he sat up at that there poolice department and kissed ole gallo's bum, while they ran the town in the ground. then he makes donations to the jokes campaign last year and helped the joke get elected. now he wants the jokes job? he's the real joke. guess Sgt. Schultz depalma, who saw nothin and heard nothin up there on North High street, iffin he was a real man he would stood up to gallo and put a stop to it all. now we payin the price and his buddy gallo is spending our hard earned money on vacations. dont expect much from the dems and even less from the reps. looks like this here election for mayor is not gonna bring us any great prize. we all will be stuck with the same old closed door games.
