DePalma Makes Run for East Haven Mayor Official

Gary DePalma, an East Haven native and longtime member of the East Haven Police Department, kicked off his campaign Sunday — joining fellow Democrat Jack Stacy in a run for the mayor's office.

The following is a press release submitted by the East Haven 2013 Mayoral Campaign of Gary DePalma.

In front of a large crowd on Main Street at the life long East Haven resident Gary DePalma announced that with his family and friends support, he will be running for the East Haven Mayoral seat.

In November, Mr. DePalma had announced the formation of an exploratory committee.

[Sunday night] DePalma told the crowd, “Based on the support you have given me and the reaction my team has received in town, I know this is the right time to run.”

“There has been an outpouring of support from all corners of town and for that I am truly honored... you are the reason I am announcing my official candidacy for the role of Mayor of East Haven. “

DePalma, a 26 year veteran of the East Haven Police Department (Sergeant), was surrounded by his family and many supporters.

[Editor's Note: DePalma is the second candidate to officially announce they're running for the mayor's office, as fellow Democrat Jack Stacy officially threw his hat in the ring last September.]

running scared February 19, 2013 at 05:12 AM
The establishment political leaders are running scared. Saw Joe Maturo drive by DePalma's fundraiser 3 times. Heard the Staceys drove by. Saw Lemoncelli too. Lots of people at the Bistro and Gary took in at least $10K. Heard that the Big Man was their from the 4th District. Little Joey must be all confused because he thought he went with McCann. Hearing Midolo is McCann's right hand man at the new independent party. All this juggling gets all them confused and get DePalma right into office!!! LOL!!! The RTC was stupid just plain stupid to allow Joe the jokester back in Finkle's boys are all spread out causing havoc everywhere. The young lawman thought he was so clever going with Joey but he's learning that pissing people off and lack of loyalty will only bring in small returns. The RTC should have allowed the Young Guys to take the reigns and there would be no DePalma now they got one. How's that RTC doing? Joey will be taking out, followed by Artie, Carl is a has been and Benny is just too ill. Rather destroy the party than pass off the baton. So sad...RTC's loss is McCann and DePalma's gain's. Where is JOSEY WALES? He too is a after thought. How do you like me now?
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM
Soooo, DePalma's ticket is to get in because of the disorganized RTC, split ranks in the DTC and the new "Independent" party throwing a couple of dozen beer hall putschers behind him? Again I ask, Where's the beef, Mr. Depalma? What is your platform based on? Who are your right hand men/women and why? What qualifications do they have? What qualifications do you have? Being a cop for 26 years, never raising above the rank of Sergeant, and sitting on a couple of boards does not make one a viable mayoral candidate. On the other hand, being willing and able to dispense favors does go a long way in Staven.

Jacobo or vampire-since, that's what your greasy picture makes you look like. Just stating the facts. You must be of the opinion that everything looks better in black and white. You are a piece of work. You spew your crap on here daily. Even on stories that require no feedback whatsoever. A frustrated, poor writer, whose only hope of any recognition is the pitiful posts that he places on a free, online publication. Gary DePalma is a great person and is probably better suited to run this town than anyone. He is well known and has lived his life above board. As far as your comments about fat people, you would be ashamed of yourself. Maybe you should loosen that necktie and let some blood flow back into that small minded brain of yours.
Jacobo Arbenz February 19, 2013 at 12:52 PM
I have already announced my candidacy for EH Mayor. I will dissolve the town and then sell it off as four seperate parcels to the surrounding towns. Vote for Jacobo Arbenz, leader of a party that has lived a lifetime full of jealosy and regret!
ASmith February 19, 2013 at 01:01 PM
Why are yall pretendin to be this Fred guy? Knows yall name's not Fred Jacobo. Guess yall tryin to throw the fools off ya trail. Fools do as fools knows. Yall sure have been actin like a fool lately. Ya let ole Joe's boys reel yall in and do their biddin. Maybe now yall are havin second thoughts. Became a man without a party now. Gots no one to call up on the phone and complain and whine to, yall can sit at them there meetins and stare into space now. Nobody to hold your hand no more.
ASmith February 19, 2013 at 01:11 PM
Vote for Jacobo the fake idiot in the outhouse. Seems this here Sgt. Schultz DePalma runnin for mayor gots yall really in a tizz now. He's jes another one of this burgs, mindless front men, like mayor joke. don't got the brains to be mayor but the group behind em will put em in the chair and pull his strings so they gets to eat good from the town pantry. but you jacobo seem pretty unraveled by this. don't know why? joke didnt unravel yall? maybe cause you managed to weasel yall way into a side door of jokes party? with sgt. schultz depalmer, no chance of that for ya. yall might be able to weasel yall way into staceys sights somehow cause he as naive as a school girl on her first date. well looks like we might go from tacos to schnitzel for same ole same ole for the burg. a bumble head in the mayors chairs and the power brokers makin the deal behind the scenes. hear the ole mayor, yall know him mr. principal is a backin this fella. Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 01:11 PM
Hyperbole like "great person" and "probably better suited to run this town" DOES NOTHING to engender confidence in DePalma's leadership abilities among the rank and file voters in East Haven, many of whom are sick and tired of unchecked EH Police lawlessness and the rampant racism among a certain well represented EH demographic. Where's the beef? Where's the Vision of East Haven's future? If all we get are crickets chriping from the DePalma camp in that regard, there won't be enough friends, families or "Independent" pigs in a blanket to get DePalma anywhere near the Town Hall in November. As far as my comments about fat people, it is they (the fatties) who should be ashamed of themselves, for letting themselves go so. Heart attacks and stokes waiting to happen, they will be the ones putting a strain on Medicare in the coming years. I understand that East Haven isn't Madison or Woodbridge, but damn people, don't ask me to show you "class" when none is given in return. If you're going to dish it out, you damn well had better be able to take it...
ASmith February 19, 2013 at 01:20 PM
and the fool rattles on. jes lookin for attention. thats all he ever does. whines and looks for attention and then sits there with his mouth shut when people are around em.
ASmith February 19, 2013 at 01:21 PM

Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 01:21 PM
Lance, what's a molignon?
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 01:29 PM
You too have a weight problem, Mr Smith? Try cherry juice for the gout and figs for the bowels. No more alfredo for you.
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 01:42 PM
I do agree with Running Scared in one regard. The old line party bosses ought to pack it in and let the younger folks take over running the rackets. I know, I know. Getting the hands out of the cookie jar is tough to do, but if the oldsters can cash in their chips and get out early enough, they might still qualify for social security discounts at the Scooter Store (heavy duty models available!) and for various other gadgets like the Wilford Brimley diabetes self test kits.
Wick Wolfe February 19, 2013 at 02:03 PM
Honestly Jacoobo, with all due respect, your comments about fat people have nothing whatsoever to do with the race or the ability of anyone to effectively run government or a business. I'm sure that you think the Givernor of New Jersey is no suitable either based on his weight alone. If you really want to effect change, do it in a positive way. I, for one, will no longer comment on your rants and "Feed The Beast". Change is effected by caring people and not those whose choice is to simply slander groups.
Richard Poulton February 19, 2013 at 02:03 PM
Morning there JA. Yesterday you did a reply to a comment made by "Robert". You questioned him as to show proof as to his accusations of corruption, etc, etc.. Remember that reply? Now here you are today basically accusing people within the administration or RTC of, and using your phrase " hands in the cookie jar". I take that as you believe or have proof that someone is stealing from the town. So I will ask you the same question you put to Robert. Show the proof.
Wick Wolfe February 19, 2013 at 02:04 PM
I also urge others who feel the same way, to follow my lead. The silent treatment for Jacobi will surely hurt his ego.
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 02:19 PM
I ask for qualifications, plans, goals, visions. You offer silence. The inference is thus that DePalma's campaign has none of the above.
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 02:24 PM
The Most Basic Proof: A flawed Town Charter allowing, for years, overly broad mayoral power to place crony incompetents in positions of power and control. Both parties guilty in this regard.
Jacobo Arbenz February 19, 2013 at 02:26 PM
Why so socialist?
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 02:38 PM
In further consideration of Robert's comment above, "Corrupt", "Questionable" and "Ignorant of Constitutional rights" seem to be considered admirable qualities in most American politicians, circa 2013, be they national or local. Shame....
Richard Poulton February 19, 2013 at 02:42 PM
And we all thought the last election year was fun, wait for this one to get rolling. Having said that there will be many people asking basically one question, what are you going to do for me, how are you going to make my life better, so on an so forth. No candidate can correctly answer those questions. No candidate can say he/she if elected into office will get taxes reduced, we all know what happens then. No mayor can do the things we really want, reduce our property taxes. Property taxes are controlled by what ever budget is approved. Want your property tax reduced, spending has to stop. Want spending to stop, services must go down. Want services to go down, no. Can't have it both ways. Real estate values I believe are controlled by trends in the housing market. Times are good prices go up, thus assessments go up. Economy gets better people start up-grading their homes, adding additions, pools, all the things we do when we have the financial ability to do so. But when we do this the value of the home goes up accordingly. So, in a nut shell don't believe if a candidate will tell you he/she will do all these nice things. Nothing will be done to stop the spending for none of us want to have services reduced. If the governor gets his way and all those nice funds normally earmarked to the cities and towns are reduced or stopped totally, and services or spending doesn't change, wait till you see the mill rate then.
Bob Fawkes February 19, 2013 at 03:22 PM
What we need is a candidate who will be honest with the people. Brutally so. He/she needs to tell the people the truth. The truth that things are NOT going to be better, certainly not in the foreseeable future. The local economy is in shambles. The American economy is in recession. The global economy is contracting on a daily basis, sustained only via three card monty ponzi bailouts. The impossible dream, that of neverending global economic growth, is broken. Resources are finite. Currency wars are now erupting among the world's financial oligarchs. The days of the American Empire, the global policeman, are over. Locally, austerity will be forced upon us all, in the form of reduced services, higher prices, longer working hours, higher taxes. Self sufficency in all matters, ought to encourged from all by our politicians. Ask any local business person to tell you if they are thriving or struggling. Most will volunteer to you that they are ready to pack it in and head south. Ask the 85 year old widow next door to you, if she likes getting that egregious tax bill, for the home she and her late husband sweated and labored over, to pay off some 35-40 years ago. Given that politics is largely a popularity contest, no politician out there presently locally or nationally, has the balls to call it as it really is. It's a shame really, because sooner or later reality will have to hit most people upside the head like a 2x4.

You have my vote Gary and my familys vote too. I've known you and your family for years. You are a great guy from family to police officer so don't listen to all that negative crap. You will be just FINE! You will make a difference in this town.
Bee February 20, 2013 at 03:44 AM
And as for Jacobo before you go knocking Gary depalma what have you done for this town? How many hours in the day do you work? I am sure you do not work half as much as Gary does for our protection and his family that should tell you something right there???? How many days a week do you take your life in your hands for your community when you go to work? So think about that before you open your mouth!
2nd District February 20, 2013 at 03:57 AM
We like Gary down here in the 2nd. He's one of our own and I think when its all said and done Gary will be our next mayor.
ASmith February 20, 2013 at 06:58 AM
Is he gonna be a witness for the prosecution or the defense come the trails in April? guess it don't matter, we knows what he will say " I see nothin...I see nothin....I hear nothin..I hear nothin...I know nothin... I know nothin....." yup we had ourselves a real stalag 13 there on north high.
ASmith February 20, 2013 at 06:59 AM

Such ignorant people learn how to speak correctly first why can't you turn this in to a positive thing with Gary in as mayor I see it as a positive thing and alot of Easthaven residents do too! So deal with it!!!
dino martino February 20, 2013 at 10:02 PM
agreed!

"Jacabo", you are disgustingly inappropriate. Your obsession over the weight/appearance/eating habits of others very clearly displays an abundance of deeply rooted insecurity within you that you may be better served to work on rather than choosing to mock the outward appearance of others for your own entertainment. Who raised you? Learn to engage in political banter by supporting you responses with intelligent, informed argument rather than ignorant, irrelevant criticism that does nothing but display your incredible lack of awareness. Grow up, and develop some class.
