Senate
The latest issue being batted between the Linda McMahon and Chris Murphy campaigns involve Connecticut’s most reliable voters: seniors.
The Associated Press looks at claims for Murphy’s campaign that McMahon wants to end Social Security (the McMahon campaign denies this).
Among the state’s 2 million voters, 32.1 percent are 60 years old or older, reports the AP. Voter turnout in the 2008 election for people older than 50 was 71 percent.
Third District
Rosa DeLauro, Wayne Winsley and other candidates in Connecticut are planning to speak at a forum on Oct. 28 at Hamden’s Congregation Mishkan Israel. A conspicuous no show, according to the New Haven Register, is Linda McMahon.
Fourth District
Jim Himes (D) received the endorsement of the Lower Fairfield County Latino Delegation.
Steve Obsitnik (R) shared an op-ed on Facebook written by a supporter and published by the Stamford Advocate.
Dave McCarthy wrote:
He is not an ideologue who will blindly support a party line. He is very intelligent and being Connecticut born and bred, will represent the people of the 4th District of our fine state in Washington. He will stand up for us, and not kowtow to extremists to curry favor.
Fifth District
Elizabeth Esty (D) released her first television ad for the general election. Titled “Protect,” the ad makes a play for seniors by saying Esty will support entitlement programs. In ominous sepia tones, the ad states Andrew Roraback will do the opposite.
Andrew Roraback (R) has cried foul about an ad funded by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Roraback calls the ad false, and the editorial staff of the Register Citizen agrees. An editorial in the newspaper calls the ads misleading.
Second District
Joseph Courtney (D). Courtney's campaign has announced a fall debate schedule with his opponent, Paul Formica (R) for the Nov.6 election:
- Online Web Forum hosted by The Day - Monday Oct. 15 – 12:00-1:00 p.m.
- Norwich Bulletin Debate – Monday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The debate will take place in the Betty Tipton Room at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic;
- The Day Debate – Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. The debate will take place in the Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College in New London;
- Enfield Youth Vote Debate – Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The debate will take place at Enfield High. It is sponsored by members of the student body who will be asking questions of the candidates.
