Campaign Notebook: 30 Percent of Voters Undecided in Senate Race

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

A new poll from the University of Connecticut and Hartford Courant shows Chris Murphy with a 37-33 lead over Linda McMahon, but the 4.4 percentage margin of error essentially shows a tie.

The key to the election will be the undecided voters, who accounted for 30 percent of the people polled.

Third District

When it comes to health care – and particularly the so-called “Obamacare” – Third District candidates Wayne Winsley and Rosa DeLauro seem to stand at opposites ends of the spectrum. The New Haven Independent looks at their stances on a few health-related issues.

Second District

Joseph Courtney (R) was honored this weekend by the Connecticut State Medical Society, which named him their Congressman of the Year.

Fifth District

GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s comments about 47 percent of the nation relying on government handouts is making the national headlines – and is being used locally in the Fifth District. According to the News Times, Elizabeth Esty is attempting to prove that Andrew Roraback holds similar views to Romney.

Roraback responded, “"It's become increasingly clear that Elizabeth Esty wishes she was running against Mitt Romney. But she's not running against Mitt Romney, she's running against Andrew Roraback."

Fourth District

Jim Himes (D) helped a local family acquire medals for their deceased family member who served in Vietnam, reports the Connecticut Post.

Steve Obsitnik (R): Although perhaps they’re not the most unbiased graders, the Obsitnik campaign released a report card for Jim Himes, giving him an F for “jobs” and the “economy.” According to the press release, “Congressman Himes has been caught cheating off Nancy Pelosi and Chris Murphy’s partisan voting records.  Their answers are identical 94% of the time.” There was no mention of a curve.

A major swing in favor of McMahon should result from Murphy's bad fiscal practices of paying TAXES, rent and mortgages late. I predict that voters who are paying attention don't want a senator who can't even properly manage his own budget and checkbook!!! We have too many of these self-centered scofflaws already in congress (career politician Murphy is just one)! Re Wayne Winsley, please read the article linked above, and also meet him if you have not done so. He could not possibly be more different than the incompetent 22 yr. incumbent career politician DeLauro! And that's a good thing!! www.winsleyforcongress.org ******* Re Obsitnik's comment on "Jim Himes, giving him an F for 'jobs' and the 'economy.' According to the press release, 'Congressman Himes has been caught cheating off Nancy Pelosi and Chris Murphy’s partisan voting records.
