VIDEO: East Haven Firefighters to Get 'Buzzed' for St. Baldrick's

Members of the East Haven Fire Department will have a new look for a good cause this Friday — when they shave their heads to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Several members of the East Haven Fire Department are going beyond their regular calls for duty this Friday as they will shave their heads to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation

Seven members in all, both professional and volunteer firefigters, are part of the East Haven team.

Members shaving their heads are:

  • Joe Ciscone - Career FF
  • Ray Kline - 911 dispatcher & vol. FF
  • Gordan Stewart - Career FF
  • Will Heiney - Career FF
  • Chuck Mingrone - Vol. FF
  • Anthony Deko - FDNY FF & EH Vol.
  • Craig Riccitelli - Vol. FF

The group will have their locks buzzed because, according to St. Baldrick's website, "kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, and we stand proudly bald beside them. But the true goal–to cure childhood cancer–will be accomplished because, while shaving, we raise funds for lifesaving childhood cancer research."

The East Haven team had set a fundraising goal of $2,500, but has already exceeded that, raising more than $3,500 in donations so far.

Many other local fire departments — including neighborhing North Haven and North Branford — are participating in Friday's event, tentatively scheduled to be held at O'Toole's Irish Bar in New Haven.

Residents who would like to help support the East Haven team's fundraising effort can donate to the drive here.
