Dry Air, Winds Could Lead to Fires

A red flag warning is in effect for East Haven and much of the state Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m.

A red flag warning will be in effect today in East Haven, as well as much of the rest of the state, from noon to 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service reports that dry weather and gusty winds — 10 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts up to 20 miles per hours — will result in critical fire weather conditions.

"A mild and generally dry air mass continues to promote favorable conditions for fire spread," the meterologists report.

Brush Fire Danger

This early spring's dry conditions has led to off and on throughout much of this month, with weather officials concerned about the possible spread of wild fires.

Last Friday, East Haven and Branford firefighters battled a on Hemingtway Avenue that destroyed a private home's a garage and a local business' storage faciility before it was brought under control.

In addition, earlier this month, East Haven joined other area fire departments battling a in North Haven, near the Northford border.

Weather Outlook

This afternoon's weather is expected to be sunny with a high around 73. Tonight the forecast calls for low near 44 degrees.

Tomorrow looks to be a bit cooler with a high in the low 60s for the shoreline.

And there is no chance of rain in the current forecast until Saturday, when there is slight chance of thunderstorms.
